Battery Energy Storage System vs Grid congestion

Grid congestion & BESS solution

Grid congestion has occurred in the Netherlands. This is mainly because the power distribution network is inadequate and adjustments take a very long time. Using a BESS, your connection can be 'virtually' enlarged.

WHAT IF YOU DON'T GET A BIGGER POWER CONNECTION ?

What if you don't get a larger power connection? You have requested a larger grid connection to expand your business processes. Or you have received a construction connection of 63A or 80A, but it will not be enlarged. You would actually like to enlarge to a connection of for example 3x160A or 3x250A. But you have received an answer from the grid operator that this can only be realized around 2030 and you have to make do with your current connection of 3x 80A which amounts to about 50kW for the time being.

Then increasing your power capacity with the help of a BESS - Battery Energy Storage System - is a solution that can be realized immediately. Using e.g. a 100kW/200kWh BESS your connection can be 'virtually' increased from e.g. 50kW to 150kW. Your off-take capacity increases by taking power from both the grid and the battery. See here the different possibilities within the ELINEX product portfolio.

An Energy Storage System can also be interesting without a connected PV system.

CONGESTION PROBLEMS

There are several companies that encounter congestion problems. Companies that would like to consume more energy, but are unable to purchase it due to extremely long queues for realizing wholesale connections. For example, our customers want more power for further sustainability. Examples include connecting heat pumps, installing EV chargers or realizing an EV charging plaza with fast chargers. This requires additional power and capacity. Manufacturing companies that want to open a new production line or hotels that want to expand also run into problems of congestion. BESS AS A CONGESTION SOLUTION

With the BESS, you can create an energy buffer and use this energy flexibly at desired times. When power is consumed particularly during the day, the battery can be charged at night. During the day, power is then used from both the grid and the battery. In this way, we virtually increase your capacity without physically increasing your connection. There are even companies that can further reduce the size of the connection, which can result in lower standing charges. Supplying power from the battery at peak times is also known as peak-shaving.

SMART ENERGY SUPPLY

By connecting the ELINEX EMS - Energy Management System - to an Energy Storage System, the desired energy flows can be intelligently controlled. Thus we can build a "Smart Grid" but also a "Micro Grid" at your location. The BESS can be fed as a buffer by different sources namely; the grid, PV generation, Wind generation and Diesel or Gas generator. With the EMS the energy sources can be controlled, but also the consumptions can be switched. For example, when there is a surplus of energy, it is made available to the EV charging station. With EMS we make your energy management smart to control, fully insightful and measurable.

ELINEX BESS SOLUTIONS & SERVICES

ELINEX Power Solutions has specialized in grid voltage problems and providing continuity and quality of (grid) voltage for its customers since 1986. At ELINEX, in addition to BESS and EMS solutions, you can also turn to UPS and NSA solutions for critical processes or bridging long-term power outages. The important distinguishing factor is that ELINEX has both a Projects Department that realizes new installations. And a brand-independent service organization that can maintain your BESS system during its technical lifetime and ensure its functionality. With the ELINEX Power Management platform, we monitor your assets 24/7 and our Service Engineers can arrive at your location within 4 hours of fault notification. Annual maintenance according to our Service Agreements ensure quality and continuity during operation and the technical lifetime of the solution.
